Position Overview:  The Wilton Historical Society is seeking a part-time Collections Manager to lead a targeted inventory of its permanent object collection and to execute the transport and storage of the inventoried items at an offsite storage facility.

Terms of Employment: Part-Time, Temporary - Project Based, April to October (or until project completion). Hours are flexible, Monday to Saturday 9 am to 5 pm.

Compensation: $20,000

Key Responsibilities:

Collections Inventory and Cataloging
In preparation for the installation of new exhibitions in four period room spaces, current objects on display need to be inventoried with current locations in the Wilton Historical Society’s Collections Management database. This position will:

  • Work with the Director to develop an inventory workplan for the duration of the project
  • Develop inventory procedures including the creation of or alteration of existing collections management forms
  • Conduct the inventory of the objects in these exhibition spaces
  • Update the database with the appropriate information and filing

Object Packing, Transport, and Offsite Storage
After the inventory is completed, objects need to be transported to an offsite storage facility. This position will:

  • Pack all objects for transportation according to best object handling practices
  • Work with the director to identify and purchase object storage and packing materials needed
  • Arrange transport of objects to the offsite facilitate, manage the transportation, and unload and store the materials upon arrival.
  • Update the database with the appropriate information

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years experience in a collections management and/or registrar position
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Job requires coordination with Wilton Historical Society staff and volunteers.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google G-Suite required.
  • Strong technology skills and computer literacy.
  • Familiarity with collections management software required, knowledge of Collective Access a plus.
  • A sense of humor, and the ability to flow with a fluid work environment.
  • Highly organized
  • Ability to work independently
