The Farmington Historical Society (FHS) is seeking its first-ever Executive Director—a unique opportunity for a dynamic, self-starter to shape the future of a respected historical and cultural institution.

This is a rare, ground-floor leadership role. The successful candidate will more than lead a 70 year old organization—they will have the unique opportunity to design and build the executive director position and FHS’s systems, and strategies, creating a lasting imprint on an organization that has been dedicated to preserving and sharing Farmington’s rich history and culture since 1955.

Located in the heart of a vibrant and supportive community in its recently acquired historic home capable of housing its collections, exhibits and programming, FHS is poised for its next chapter—expanding its reach, strengthening its programs, and deepening the impact of its mission.

About the Role

The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors to lead all aspects of the organization, including operations, programs, community engagement, fundraising, and long-term strategic growth.

This is a highly visible role requiring both strategic thinking and hands-on leadership and execution.

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as the primary leader and public face of FHS
  • Partner with the Board to shape strategy and organizational direction
  • Build and manage day-to-day operations, systems, and communications
  • Lead community engagement, marketing, and membership growth
  • Oversee programs, events, and exhibitions
  • Guide fundraising efforts, including grants, donations, and partnerships
  • Support preservation and accessibility of collections and archives
  • Oversee facilities and ensure a welcoming, professional environment
